History Of My Personal Trainer
"My Personal Trainer™ was conceived after professionally spending more than
35 years in the fitness and weight loss industries while working directly and indirectly
with some 1.5 million men and women. These years have taught me more about what
is wrong with these industries than what is right. In my professional opinion, I can say
without much prejudice that most of what has and is being taught, promoted and believed
by the vast majority of "so-called" personal trainers and exercise
"experts", as well as most gyms, fitness centers and health clubs,
do not understand why they do what they do to produce minimal results for most at
best, and injuries at worst, or how to even properly measure results both, positive or negative."
This understanding lead to the formation of My Personal Trainer™, Inc. MPT
started in 2004 under very unusual and even somewhat humorous circumstances. Its
inception and first location was behind a well let's call it a book and video
store with the letters XXX in their front window. Also, directly across the street
was a dying group of businesses called a cemetery, literally, and in the back was
a run-down cat-infested trailer park. Not what you would call the best demographics
for starting a personal training studio but, regardless of this "less than affluent"
location, we immediately experienced an influx of both men and women, ages eighteen
to eighty, and representing a large variety of social classes and incomes.
Another event that was totally unexpected was that some of these clients were driving
up to 30 miles one way to receive our services.
With the success of the original studio in Canton, Ohio, we began expansion and
opened two additional company studios in 2005. In 2009, we relocated our original
studio to a much more professional location and immediately experienced a 300% increase
in business. Along with this move, we also opened new MPT corporate offices directly
adjacent to this suite in order to have on-site training classes for new franchisees.
My mother used to say, "when you rush, you make mistakes."
While exercising extreme control of growth and intentionally applying our foot much
more to the brake than the accelerator for up-front control purposes, we have continually
upgraded the look and feel of the studios as we opened more locations. Now we have
a design and style that is absolutely perfect for both men and women's tastes and
comfort. However, there is one thing that we did not and could not upgrade. That
is our exercise training protocol because that has been absolutely right-on from
the very beginning.
Our clients have been getting results for five years now that would be hard for
them to believe is possible until they experienced it for themselves
typically 75% to 150% strength increases in a matter of a few months and fat
losses ranging from 25% to upwards of 75%.
We are now postured to begin offering franchise opportunities nationally to select
individuals that we feel have the right stuff: Awesome attitude, assertiveness,
motivated to make a lot of money (but not allowing money to make them) and, most
importantly, an abundant passion for helping people to positively change their lives
through our unique one-on-one progressive resistance exercise protocol and no nonsense
nutritional system.
